FAQs
What are the benefits of Massage?
Massage reduces stress, pain and muscle tension. Some more benefits of massage is that it can improve circulation, eliminate toxins, improve flexibility, improve sleep, enhance immunity, reduce fatigue, reduce anxiety/depression and reduce inflammation.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
I will have paperwork for you to fill out which includes an intake form and liability waiver asking for your health history and informed consent for a massage. We will then have about a 2-5 minute consultation, going over any questions or concerns and your goals for the session so that I can meet your needs best to my ability. From this, we can then make a plan for future treatments. I will leave the room so that you can undress to your comfort level and you will either start supine (face up) or prone (face down) on the table. You will be covered by sheets and a blanket at all times, apart from the area of the body that I am working on and professional draping will be applied so that nothing is exposed. You are encouraged to let me know if you are uncomfortable at any point in the massage and I will make modifications as needed. Is is your choice if you’d like to chat during your session, drift off in your mind or even take a snooze. After the session, I will leave the room so that you can get dressed and a follow up consultation will be provided.
How often should I get a Massage?
The answer depends on the amount of pain you are in, how stressed you are, your physical needs and your budget. I have some clients that I see weekly, some every couple of months and some once a year. Everyone’s body is different and you may find a schedule that works best for you. A massage every two weeks to a month would be ideal but may not be realistic for every person.
Why is it necessary to hydrate after a Massage?
Toxins are released after a massage and go into your bloodstream. Hydration helps purify your kidneys and the kidneys process key nutrients and toxins. The water flushes the free radicals/toxins out of your system and oxygenates your cells so that new/good blood can start to circulate and flow through the body. This helps to avoid getting ill. Massage can also release fluids from your muscle tissue and into your vascular system which causes dehydration so you want to restock up on the water you lost during your massage. Metabolic waste are particles in our body that are no use to us and when massaged, they are released at a faster rate than what were are used to. This waste can constrict our muscles leading to a blockage of toxin flushing. When you drink enough water after, you give your body the chance to loosen up and release the tense muscles that hold the waste.
Is it normal to feel sore after a Massage and how can I prevent it?
Massage can stimulate areas of the body that you haven’t used or targeted recently. For example, it’s similar to working out at the gym and feeling some soreness a couple days later on the muscles that you worked the most. It is normal to feel sore after a massage and it takes time for your muscles to get used to the work out just like how your muscles need time to get used to being manipulated in certain ways. The delayed onset muscle soreness is a physical response to the inflammation as your body heals. You can prevent soreness by hydrating before and after your massage, using a heat pack or heating pad, topical pain creams and essential oils.
Do you have to completely undress?
The less you are wearing, the more I will be able to focus on areas of concern and muscles that need to be worked on like the back, legs, glutes, etc. It is important to feel the most comfortable and relaxed during the massage to get the best experience, so I always tell my clients to “undress to your comfort level” and if you are more comfortable keeping some articles of clothing on, then I can accommodate to that. Professionalism and secure draping are always used to gain your trust and to make you feel most comfortable on the table.
How does Massage Therapy get rid of toxins in the body?
Massage plays a significant role in the removal of toxins from the body’s tissues. Cellular metabolism leads to the formation of of lactic acid, which is eliminated by the body’s detoxification systems. High levels of stress cause the body to produce more acid then is able to be eliminated. Overtime, toxins can become harmful to your health if they aren’t eliminated properly. Massage aids in the removal of toxins/acid. By improving circulation, it helps the body receive adequate nutrition and improves venous return. The stimulation used in massage helps dissolve and eliminate toxin buildup in the tissues. They are released into the bloodstream, which is then excreted out of the body by drinking a lot of water. The primary mechanism for toxin release is increased circulation of the blood and lymph.
Are you supposed to tip after you receive a Massage service?
Gratuity is always accepted and appreciated as a thank you but never required. How much you decide to give is based on the experience you have and an individual decision. There are other ways to show appreciation for the service such as referring to other individuals and rebooking.
